Portrait Of The Loneliest Road In America

New Short Film!

In October 2016, while filming another project, I drove from Reno to Des Moines taking mostly backroads. One of the roads I drove was Rt. 50 in Nevada, affectionately known as the Loneliest Road in America for it’s long meandering stretches of two-lane-blacktop intersecting several mountain passes, and kept company only by a few small towns.

A few months later I traveled the Loneliest Road again, this time without a destination. I packed my camera gear with the intention of capturing a few interviews and documenting my experience while I wandered aimlessly for a week.

William Least-Heat Moon describes the motivation for such a journey in his book Blue Highways, “With a nearly desperate sense of isolation and a growing suspicion that I lived in an alien land, I took to the road in search of places where change did not mean ruin and where time and men and deeds connected.”
